Joseph and Jane Kennedy (that was her maiden name as well) were married St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Parish in Carbonear, Newfoundland near Harbor Grace on November 15, 1871. They later emigrated to PEI appearing there on the 1881 Canadian Census; they may have been in St. John's for the birth of their last two children. Joe Kennedy is said to have had a brother Edward Kennedy and the two seamen according to one descendant were "runners."
